It has been a year and a half since Ben died. I haven’t been sure in the months and year following his death if I could ever feel grateful again. It is difficult in the midst of such debilitating pain and intense absence to feel anything but shattered. And yet – on this day – my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude. For though the work that lies ahead of us is great, there have been many people surrounding us during this incubation period.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Sue and Ray at Ardent Sage for their sensitivity, artistry, humor and guidance. Our deep appreciation to Tom Devaney at Morrison & Foerster, Andrew Moore at Perkins Coie, and their colleagues for their excellent legal direction. To Doug, Kjell, Sara, David, Mike and the Children’s team – for walking along side us as we dive into this new endeavor. It is humbling to have experts in their fields assisting us. For these people, our families and so many more – we are thankful.
So this is it. Here we go. This is where it starts. The rocks have been tossed, the ripples have begun. The movement will take shape. *takes a deep breath* This…is going to be big. I have never been more sure of something in my entire life.
For that – and luckily a few other things – I am grateful.
Welcome to the Ben Towne Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.
With Gratitude,
Carin & Jeff
