On Friday afternoon I said to Jeff “Do you really think people will come tonight?” Though this was our fourth event (third anniversary), it is still hard for us to believe that anyone besides our immediate families would show up. But you did. In fact, 1100 of you did. And we could not be more thankful. It has been four days since the benefit and our heads are still spinning. It is so hard to capture in words the amount of energy, enthusiasm, and good will that continues to be set in motion by all of you.
We are especially grateful to Lisa and Donna for sharing their children’s cancer journeys with all of us. To Dr. Jensen, Dr. Kean, Dr. Gardner and Dr. Crane for their vision and passion for the work that is happening at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research. And we are thrilled to continue sharing the best news of the summer – that the first patient from the cellular immunotherapy Phase 1 clinical trial continues to show no signs of cancer. As we said on Friday, this is just the beginning. But it is clear, because of your generosity and willingness to invest in this work, that we are moving in the right direction.
A special thanks to our benefit coordinator (and sister/aunt extraordinaire) Kristen! Our event would not even be possible without her leadership, managerial skills and attention to detail. Thank you Kristen! Our gratitude to Kendall and Jodie for jumping in with us in the processing aftermath. And of course much appreciation to all our beautiful volunteers, table captains, Kristi Henry, The Academy, Callie’s Coffee and Ross Andrew Winery!
Stay tuned for a picture gallery on Facebook – many thanks to Bryce Covey Photography for capturing our event once again. With his recent spread in Bride Magazine it is out of extreme kindness that he would take time out of his busy schedule to be with us.
And of course to all of you!!!
We look forward to updating you Friday with more post-benefit news…
