As some of you may recall, we co-hosted an event last spring in Boise where the entire evening was spent in a power outage! We have joked about that many times since, thinking that because we managed that we were probably in the clear in terms of BTF events. Until this past Thursday in Portland when our “friend-raiser” ended in a fire! No, I am not joking. The event was being held at the lovely Bluehour in Portland. At approximately 8:40pm, the bar and bartender caught on fire and the entire restaurant had to be quickly evacuated. Thankfully the bartender is alright and we were done for the most part with our evening. But wow, what is going on?!?!?
Nonetheless, we were so excited for the opportunity to be in Portland for an “Evening with Ben Towne Foundation”. About 75 people gathered to enjoy drinks, appetizers and to hear a program about our mission and work. It was a great night, despite the way it ended, and we were delighted to meet so many lovely people! Thank you very much to everyone who attended. We were grateful for your presence and willingness to take time out of your Thursday night to be with us. And special thanks to our generous friends – the Wises, Browns, Kimballs, Starks, D’Ambrosios, Krista and Jesse for hosting their friends and raising awareness for the work that is happening at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research. We look forward to returning there in the future!
If you feel inspired to gather a group for an event in your city – let us know! But beware, natural disasters could follow…
*I am so saddened to not have taken any pictures of the venue and folks there. They were such a fun and enjoyable group that the night flew by and before I knew it I was evacuating the building! Where is Bryce Covey when you need him?
