raam team btf

What if I told you that four young adults were going to ride their bikes continuously 24 hours a day from California to Maryland? What if I told you they were so big hearted and visionaries beyond their years that they were going to do it to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer through BTF? Well folks…please meet Meghan, Matias, Lucas and Lydia! These amazing young adults will be taking part in the Race Across America (RAAM) in honor of Ben Towne Foundation next month!

RAAM is one of the world’s toughest cycling challenges. Racers start from Oceanside, CA and finish in Annapolis, MD, traveling a total of 3,000 miles with 170,000 feet of climbing. Unlike the Tour de France (a stage race), the RAAM is a continual time trial meaning that the racers have no break and must be racing 24/7 to be successful.

This past Friday night, Jeff and I had the opportunity to attend “Accelerate the Cure” on Bainbridge Island. This event simultaneously celebrated the incredible vision of these young adults and raised funds for BTF. To say we were inspired would be an understatement. It was our privilege, along with Dr. Jensen’s, to thank each of them in person, as well as their families and support team. While the wine, dinner and auction were very enjoyable, it was these students that we will think of when we remember this night. Thank you to everyone who was part of planning and executing this great event – Kathleen, Outi, Kurt, Nelson Jay, the volunteer team, musicians, and more!

Meghan, Matias, Lucas and Lydia, we cannot wait to root you all (and your entire support team) on next month! Please show them your support by liking them on Facebook and following their incredible journey!
